iWay Software Extends Data Profiling Capabilities With iWay Data Profiler

New Offering Works With iWay Software’s Data Quality Center to Enhance and Streamline Data Profiling, Without Additional Client Software, Plug-Ins, or Report Viewers

NEW YORK (December 09, 2009) –

iWay Software, an Information Builders company and an innovator of enterprise integration solutions, today announced the release of iWay Data Profiler, a product that enables users to query, report, analyze, deliver, and display electronic profiling data in any way they choose. Backed by mature tools for data quality monitoring, reporting, and analytics, iWay Data Profiler integrates output from iWay Software’s Data Quality Center (DQC) with business intelligence (BI), enabling administrators to view, monitor, compare, and report on the quality and other key indicators of the mission-critical data of their organization.

iWay DQC generates advanced data profiling information, allowing users to define custom business rules and determine basic data statistics, uniqueness, frequency, and masks. iWay Data Profiler takes the information provided by iWay DQC one step further, enabling information archiving for on-demand reporting, as well as additional graphical and intuitive analysis of the variance in data profiles over different time periods. Additionally, with the new product, drill-down data can be collected in a database so the exact records that fall into one of the profiled categories can be displayed.

“In an increasingly competitive market, our customers need solutions that work together to streamline business operations and provide real-time data management. iWay Data Profiler does just that by allowing users to harness information assets provided by their existing iWay Software solutions in new and unique ways,” said Gerald Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders. “The new iWay Data Profiler was specifically designed to enhance an organization’s integration and data profiling capabilities. Not only is this new offering the perfect complement to iWay DQC, but it also eliminates the need for organizations to purchase expensive bolt-on software and plug-ins, meaning our customers save big on costs.”

With the release of iWay Data Profiler, organizations now have the ability to extend powerful data profiling capabilities to anyone who needs them. In addition, iWay Data Profiler administrators can now:

* Collect profiling data from iWay DQC
* Tag and archive profiling data input as a set into an associated RDBMS for easy retrieval
* View the data profiling set using advanced data manipulation and graphics
* Compare multiple archived data profiling sets to view the variance in profiling data
* Print/export any of these views in industry-standard formats like HTML, PDF, and Excel
* Share data with other users across the intranet/Internet

Sabre Airline Solutions uses iWay Data Quality Center to ensure the quality and integrity of origin and destination (O&D) information, which it collects from nearly every airline worldwide. “We collect millions of rows of passenger information from the airlines every month,” said Jeff Pelletier, director of product management and delivery, Airport Data Intelligence, Sabre Airline Solutions. “We are using iWay Data Quality Center to detect errors and anomalies as the data is loaded, so our clients know the data is accurate.”

iWay Data Profiler is available immediately. For more information, please visit: iwaysoftware.com/products/dataprofiler.html

PRISM Group Soars With Information Builders’ WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Technology

Leading Airlines and Global Corporations Use Embedded BI Solution to Manage Travel Programs

NEW YORK (December 08, 2009) –

Leading Airlines and Global Corporations Use Embedded BI Solution to Manage Travel Programs

Information Builders, an independent leader in business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced that PRISM Group, Inc. has standardized on the WebFOCUS BI platform for reporting, analysis, and information delivery for 7,800 clients in 161 countries. PRISM Group develops travel information systems for some of the world’s largest airlines and corporations.

PRISM Group has integrated more than 300 WebFOCUS reports into its sales server and Avion travel management systems to help airlines negotiate profitable contracts and to help corporations analyze travel expenditures. For example, airlines use the reporting system to track the effectiveness of incentives and to ensure that customers are fulfilling the terms of their contracts. Corporate travel managers use the reporting system to negotiate better deals with airlines. Some clients run hundreds of WebFOCUS reports each month to monitor the performance of their contracts, optimize profitability, and keep an eye on travel costs.

“WebFOCUS easily integrates with our existing information systems, allowing our customers to consolidate data, manage contracts, and perform a variety of decision support functions in a secure global environment,” said Laurie Stutzman, manager of the decision support team at PRISM Group. “Authorized users can run reports on demand or receive reports by e-mail. WebFOCUS gives them advanced reporting tools to graph results, drill down into details, and analyze data within their protected domains.”

Information Builders’ Professional Services helped PRISM Group develop and deploy the new reporting system. “We couldn’t have been happier with the support we received from Information Builders,” added Stutzman. “They were extremely attentive and responded quickly to our questions. They were sincerely committed to our success.”

After evaluating several leading BI tools, PRISM Group purchased WebFOCUS because of its thin-client architecture, strong Web services capabilities, and flexible tools for analyzing, displaying, and distributing information. Now PRISM Group maintains a single WebFOCUS reporting server for all customer reporting activities, significantly reducing software licensing and IT infrastructure costs.

“PRISM Group leads the travel industry in providing current, actionable information to its customers,” said Gerald Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders. “At a time when many companies are scrutinizing travel expenses and negotiating better purchasing contracts, PRISM Group’s travel management programs have proven to be a valuable asset.”
About PRISM Group, Inc.

PRISM Group, Inc., headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, specializes in the development of travel information systems for airlines and global corporations. PRISM was founded in 1987 and was the first consulting firm to specialize in travel distribution, that is, how travel is sold and distributed. As one of the first consulting firms in travel, PRISM provided services to all parties in the distribution channel: travel agencies, companies, and suppliers.

PRISM SalesServer technology drives airline corporate contracting systems, such as those at AirFrance/KLM, American, Continental, Delta, KLM, Lufthansa, Northwest, and United Airlines. The company integrates this same technology into Avion, used by leading companies for the management of their global travel management programs. PRISM works with 5454 companies in 125 countries.

* A highly secure environment leveraging the iWay RVI Secure Proxy Service – using the secure AS2 protocol – preserves data integrity and security between internal applications and systems, and Amazon EC2 instances of iWay solutions

“The need to provide data for business is a top priority and with growing volumes of data in public and private cloud computing environments, this need must be addressed as part of a broader information management and business intelligence investment,” said Mark Smith, CEO and executive vice president at Ventana Research. “Information Builders has introduced a robust and cost effective approach called iWay Cloud Services, which leverages the immediate availability of Amazon EC2 to provide a simple but sophisticated avenue to interconnect, cleanse, and profile data across systems, networks, and cloud-based computing environments.”

iWay Cloud Services for Amazon EC2 is fully compatible with Information Builders WebFOCUS BI platform, enabling users to leverage the capabilities of BI and integration with the simplicity of a cloud solution. iWay SaaS on Amazon EC2 is available immediately.

“Given the macro-economic environment that many companies are operating in currently, these companies lack the budget and luxury for an extensive, lengthy, pricey BI implementation which have a historically high failure rate,” said Steve Hamerslag, CEO of iQ4bis. “iQ4bis has taken the complexity and risk out of the creation of a data warehouse. With our mature product line, we have been able to offer a virtual ‘out-of-the-box’ solution that can show almost instantaneous results. Bunn-O-Matic Corporation Refreshes Its BI Capabilities With Information Builders WebFOCUS

BI Platform Replaces Several Systems to Deliver Relevant Data Throughout Organization

NEW YORK, NY (October 26, 2009) –

Bunn-O-Matic Corporation is keeping its staff better informed, thanks to a new business intelligence (BI) environment from Information Builders that delivers relevant data throughout its organization. Nearly 100 staff members are currently using WebFOCUS, the pervasive BI platform that is putting fact-based insights directly into the hands of people who need it, when they need it.

Bunn-O-Matic relies on an ERP system to run a Lean Manufacturing operation that involves the production, sale, and distribution of industrial and retail beverage equipment. WebFOCUS was chosen to replace several tools used for reporting purposes, including Cognos ReportNet. Bunn-O-Matic’s IT team was impressed by the scope, power, and flexibility of the WebFOCUS platform to enhance their management reporting. The use of parameter-driven reports allows users to be more self-sufficient.

Bunn-O-Matic purchased WebFOCUS and enlisted Information Builders Professional Services to train a few key developers. The team quickly replicated some essential reports and then set out to create new reporting capabilities by combining data stored in disparate DB2 and SQL Server databases. Since Bunn-O-Matic’s ERP data in DB2 was on an AS/400 iSeries computer and its service systems data was in Microsoft SQL Server on a Windows server, combining data into unified reports had been nearly impossible with the old reporting system. Thanks to WebFOCUS and the iWay DB2/400 adapter, it is now possible to join information from these dissimilar data storage systems.

One of the most decisive breakthroughs involved WebFOCUS Active Reports, which combines data and interactive capabilities in a single file. Accessible via a user’s desktop or mobile computer, this tool enables Bunn-O-Matic’s sales staff to run reports and perform their own sorting, filtering, configuring, and charting of data – without the help of the IT team.

Bunn-O-Matic uses WebFOCUS DataMigrator to pull data out of the ERP system and convert it into a useful reporting format every night. The sales team receives up-to-date sales statistics each morning. Embedded access restrictions keep them from viewing each other’s information. WebFOCUS enforces segregation of the data without limiting the visibility of critical information. Parameterized reports meet the unique needs of a variety of users, even though they are all running the same basic reports.

Bunn-O-Matic also uses WebFOCUS ReportCaster to e-mail reports to both customers and internal users. Reports are set to run on schedules, so recipients know when to expect them daily, weekly or monthly; some reports go out as frequently as two or three times a day.

“With WebFOCUS, Bunn-O-Matic has put enhanced reporting capabilities into the hands of the people who need it most without straining their IT department beyond its means,” said Gerald Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders. “WebFOCUS lets each user find information through parameterized reports more quickly than ever before.”
About Bunn-O-Matic

Bunn-O-Matic Corporation designs and manufactures innovations in commercial beverage equipment and home coffee brewers. Headquartered in Springfield, Illinois, the organization has been helping customers create the perfect cup of coffee since 1957.

Ace Hardware Remodels Its Enterprise Reporting Capabilities With Information Builders’ Business Intelligence

National Retailer Builds on WebFOCUS As Its BI Standard

NEW YORK, NY (October 19, 2009) –

Information Builders, an independent leader in business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced that Ace Hardware Corporation has standardized on the WebFOCUS BI platform for enterprise-wide reporting, analysis, and information delivery. Ace Hardware has 10,000 WebFOCUS users in merchandising, marketing, finance, advertising, international, paint, rental, retail operations, and supply chain accessing more than 300 WebFOCUS reports. Each department has its own dashboard where users can launch reports and analytic applications.

WebFOCUS helps Ace manage its internal operation while enabling retailers and wholesalers to boost revenue and streamline their supply chains. For example, retail managers use WebFOCUS to identify their best customers and target them with specific marketing campaigns. They can monitor the top-selling items at each retail location, ensuring those items are in stock and maximizing sales opportunities. Marketing personnel use WebFOCUS to gauge the effects of specific promotions on sales and to improve the Ace Rewards customer loyalty program.

In addition, 1,500 people throughout Ace depend on a WebFOCUS dashboard, which tracks daily sales at the retail and wholesale levels. This information helps the company gauge how various items are selling by region, division, and product category. About 1,800 vendors use WebFOCUS to track how individual products are selling by region and time of year. This visibility helps these vendors to forecast production needs, optimize product selection, and develop better sales plans.

“We have yet to hear anybody say ‘WebFOCUS can’t do that,'” said Tim Brynda, a software engineering analyst at Ace who is spearheading many of Ace’s current BI efforts. “WebFOCUS has served us well as an enterprise standard. We couldn’t be happier with the results.”

According to Brynda, WebFOCUS can easily join data from disparate sources into a single report, opening up new avenues of inquiry. This has motivated BI stakeholders to use WebFOCUS as part of an enterprise-wide business transformation project that centers around implementing SAP R/3 applications. For example, the merchandising team is analyzing wholesale information from the SAP sales and distribution module to identify quick-selling, high-margin products that retailers might want to carry. This information will also be valuable to vendors researching a product’s sales history, retail managers checking inventory levels, and many other internal and external users. Other SAP BW reporting initiatives are planned.

Ace plans to use WebFOCUS Active Reports to offer portable analytic options to its field staff. These dynamic PDF reports will enable remote workers to analyze data without having to be connected to Ace’s intranet. Ace also plans to use WebFOCUS InfoAssist to expand the number of power users in each department, easing the pressure on skilled programmers who currently handle most of the custom reporting services. InfoAssist helps non-technical people create queries, reports, charts, and dashboards. Finally, Ace plans to explore WebFOCUS Quick Data to allow business professionals create ad hoc reports within Microsoft Excel. An Excel add-in file, Quick Data connects directly to the WebFOCUS reporting engine to let these users build reports that are automatically refreshed from enterprise data sources and combine multiple reports into a single worksheet.

“At a time when leading retail organizations nationwide are coping with flat or declining sales, Ace is demonstrating how BI can have a positive impact on the bottom line,” said Gerry Cohen, president and CEO at Information Builders.
About Ace Hardware

Throughout its 85-year history, Ace Hardware has been known as the helpful hardware store by both customers and communities. In 2009, Ace ranked “Highest in Customer Satisfaction among Home Improvement Stores for the Third Consecutive Year,” according to J.D. Power and Associates. With 4,600 locally owned and operated hardware, home center and building materials stores that generate annual retail sales of approximately $12 billion, Ace is the largest hardware cooperative in the industry. Headquartered in Oak Brook, Ill., Ace currently operates 14 distribution centers in the U.S. and one in Shanghai, China, and its retailers’ stores are located in all 50 states and more than 60 countries. Information Builders Predicts Major League Baseball’s 2009 World Series Champion

WebFOCUS RStat’s crunches 40 years of MLB statistics; Congratulations are in order for The Los Angeles Dodgers

NEW YORK, NY (October 12, 2009) –

Following a review of 40 years of baseball statistics (since 1969), Information Builders, the leader in business intelligence (BI) solutions, has predicted the winner of this year’s Major League Baseball World Series.

“Congratulations are in order for The Los Angeles Dodgers; start planning the parade route and stocking up on those party streamers,” said Kevin Quinn, vice president of product marketing at Information Builders. “Although I’m from New York, I’m not a Yankee fan. I’m actually a Met fan, so I’m happy to congratulate a National League team.”

Using key cumulative team statistics such as winning percentage, runs scored, batting average, total extra base hits, earned run average, and fielding percentage, Information Builders was able to predict the Los Angeles Dodgers will defeat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 2009 Fall Classic.

To come up with their prediction, Information Builders analyzed 40 years of baseball statistics from all of the teams that made the playoffs. RStat determined which combination of statistics was most significant in determining a winner. The company then created the scoring routine and applied it to the same statistics for the eight teams that made the playoffs this year.

The final predictive model that was used showed that the Dodgers, Angels, and Yankees had the highest probability of winning. Although the probabilities were close, the Dodgers did have a slight edge over the Angels and Yankees. These three were nearly twice as likely to win than the remaining five teams.

“Baseball is a game rooted in statistics, and we thought we’d leverage that, along with America’s interest in baseball, to illustrate the forecasting power of predictive analytics when coupled with a robust business intelligence platform like WebFOCUS,” continued Quinn. “This exercise proves you don’t have to be an expert statistician to capitalize on the benefits of predictive analytics with WebFOCUS RStat; anyone can use the solution to make better informed decisions.”

This is not the first time Information Builders has used its WebFOCUS solution to demonstrate how easy it is to provide non-technical users with access to critical information. In 1999, the company launched statswizard.com, an online portal that allowed Fantasy Baseball enthusiasts to sort, calculate, filter, and visualize baseball stats in hundreds of different ways. The micro site demonstrated how WebFOCUS could provide a view of information to multiple users with consistent performance.

Today’s World Series prediction reveals how businesses (or baseball fans) have the ability to make decisions based on high probability rates and not on gut-feeling alone, as companies have been known to do. With WebFOCUS RStat, every decision-maker at any level within an organization is able to benefit from direct access to predictive modeling applications.

NEW YORK, NY (October 05, 2009) –

Information Builders an independent leader in business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced its inclusion in Software Magazine’s 27th annual Software 500 ranking of the world’s largest software and services providers. Information Builders was ranked 121, with software revenue of $306 million.

“The 2009 Software 500 results show that revenue growth in the software and services industry was healthy, with total Software 500 revenue of $491.3 billion worldwide for 2008, representing 8.8 percent growth from the previous year,” says John P. Desmond, editor of Software Magazine and Softwaremag.com.

“The Software 500 helps CIOs, senior IT managers, and IT staff research and create the short list of business partners,” Desmond says. “It is a quick reference of vendor viability. And the online version to be posted soon at Softwaremag.com is searchable by category, making it what we call the online catalog to enterprise software.”

The Software 500 is a revenue-based ranking, targeting medium to large enterprises, their IT professionals, software developers, and business managers involved in software and services purchasing. Forty-four percent of the 2009 Software 500 companies are privately held.

“The Software 500 represent the best in the industry, and we’re thrilled to be recognized yet again as a leading software provider in the business intelligence space,” said Gerald D. Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders. “As we’ve continued to grow our company, Information Builders’ focus remains on our customers and helping them achieve their goals.”

The ranking is based on total worldwide software and services revenue for 2008. This includes revenues from software licenses, maintenance and support, training, and software-related services and consulting. Suppliers are not ranked on their total corporate revenue, since many have other lines of business, such as hardware. The financial information was gathered by a survey prepared by King Content Co. and posted on Softwaremag.com, as well as from public documents.

Walsworth Publishing Reduces Costs for Competitive Edge With Information Builders

Walsworth Teams Up With Information Builders to Deliver Targeted Information to Customers and Staff Members

NEW YORK, NY (September 29, 2009) –

Information Builders, the leader in business intelligence (BI) solutions, was tapped to build a unique information system and create internal dashboards and reports for sales, manufacturing, and finance personnel at Walsworth Publishing, a printing industry leader that specializes in school yearbooks. Walsworth helps students preserve memories via a Web-based BI system that tracks and organizes pages submitted electronically throughout the year. Thanks to Information Builders, data such as the status of printing jobs, proofs, and deadlines can now be accessed electronically, enabling students to monitor page submissions, streamline administration, reduce printing costs, and review page proofs.

Walsworth Publishing has been producing yearbooks and other print materials of exceptional quality for nearly 80 years. With roughly 3,700 schools as customers, it’s one of only four major yearbook printers in the industry. As its business grew, Walsworth decided to replace a hodge-podge of reporting and data management tools with a unified BI environment built using Information Builders’ WebFOCUS platform.

“Our reporting systems weren’t scalable, they weren’t flexible, and they couldn’t keep up with our growth,” said Sherri Pickman, finance and cost accounting manager at Walsworth. “We purchased WebFOCUS to stabilize our reporting environment. We needed a strong and flexible business intelligence system, and we were confident that WebFOCUS could easily reach into different types of data and create a common platform for reporting.”

In addition to creating the customer-facing BI system, Walsworth used WebFOCUS Developer Studio to develop a sales dashboard for about 170 yearbook salespeople and managers. Previously, these employees had to manually combine information from multiple systems. None of this information was interactive, parameterized, or updated more than once per week. Now, WebFOCUS synthesizes relevant information into one continuously updated dashboard that displays key financial and production metrics to authorized users. Salespeople have parameterized reports that allow them to segment the customer base and create targeted promotions. For example, they can look at all schools with yearbooks in a certain pricing program, then automatically export the data to an Excel spreadsheet to identify the best revenue opportunities.

Walsworth plans to update the sales dashboards with forecasting reports that will help sales managers and executives devise more accurate revenue projections. In addition, Walsworth is using WebFOCUS to create finance reports for about 200 people charged with tracking monthly expense budgets along with key performance indicators and dashboards for executives in finance, human resources, information technology, yearbook sales, and commercial sales.

“Walsworth publishing is on the cusp of an emerging trend in information management, commonly known as self-service reporting,” said Gerald D. Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders. “Instead of reacting to events based on limited insight, they are helping customers and staff gain self-sufficiency by locating and analyzing the information they need, boosting productivity, reducing costs, and creating a more competitive organization.”

Plus Relocation Services Provides Information Builders’ Unique Business Intelligence Services to Global Customer Base

Custom Dashboard Environment Is the First of Its Kind for Relocation Management Industry

NEW YORK, NY (September 21, 2009) –

Information Builders, an independent leader in business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced that Plus Relocation Services has deployed Information Builders WebFOCUS BI platform as the foundation for a customer-facing dashboard environment called InformAgility. As a global leader in the full-service relocation management and consulting industry, Plus Relocation created the BI environment to help clients create better relocation packages, keep track of expenses, and stay on budget throughout the year. Plus Relocation also used WebFOCUS to create an operational reporting system that helps employees communicate more effectively with customers about the costs and potential issues associated with relocation activities. Nearly 180 customers rely on InformAgility with more than 80 internal users depending on WebFOCUS for reporting and analysis functions.

According to Mick Lee, chairman and CEO at Plus Relocation Services, they selected Information Builders based on its proven success in Web-based reporting and performance management, coupled with its mature data visualization software. “Our new dashboards give us reporting capabilities that our competitors simply don’t have,” said Mr. Lee. “Through WebFOCUS, our clients are able to generate a variety of online, standard, and ad hoc reports in the areas of relocation activity, expenses, home sales, and invoice history.”

InformAgility makes this information easily accessible in a variety of formats such as graphs, PDF, HTML, Excel, and Active Reports. It includes an interactive cost calculator, online authorization forms, real-time status updates, customized financial reports, up-to-the-minute transferee survey results, and a document library for policies and reports. For example, if an employee moves from San Francisco to Singapore, the employer can estimate how much that relocation will cost and then use InformAgility to track expenses against that estimate. In addition, employers who purchase and resell their employees’ former homes can track appraisals, listing amounts and offers for each property. They can also drop in different pricing structures to perform “what-if” scenarios – a valuable capability in today’s volatile housing market.

Information Builders Professional Services helped Plus Relocation build a variety of operational reporting capabilities for internal use. Once these basic reports were in place, Plus Relocation used WebFOCUS Flex Enable to generate reports, graphs, and other visual representations of the data, including graphical drill-down capabilities that let users filter and manipulate information as they see fit. Plus Relocation is also using WebFOCUS Flex Enable to integrate graphics into its proposals, including interactive reports, drop-down menus, and dashboards. In the near future, the company plans to deploy WebFOCUS Performance Management Framework to complement an existing balanced scorecard initiative.

“At a time when many relocation services companies are struggling to stay afloat, Plus Relocation Services has proven how the right mix of reporting and performance management capabilities can offer the competitive edge necessary to acquire and retain new clients,” said Gerald D. Cohen, president and CEO at Information Builders. “Technology-savvy organizations enjoy having the flexibility to generate their own reports, collaborate online, and continually monitor activities and costs. Plus Relocation is at the forefront of an emerging trend to offer custom BI capabilities to customers.”
